One of the first trips where I sketched constantly — looking out the car windows, stopping at viewpoints, hiking, eating at local restaurants, waiting at the airport. We landed in Las Vegas, rented an Escape camper van, and visited Zion National Park, Monument Valley, Kasha-Katue Tent Rocks National Monument, Bandelier National Monument, Sedona, and Hoover Dam. Many of these ink sketches were done on 4″x6″ folios of sketchbook paper while riding in a car (or on the shuttle bus at Zion).
Enjoy this journey in images! In retrospect, this was my first foray into “visual journalism”, taking real-time notes on my surroundings as they changed. Someday these will make it into a book.
